Winton Shire

Winton Shire Council is located in the suburb of Winton, the council of Winton, the state electorate of Gregory and the federal electorate of Maranoa. It covers an area of 53,814 square kilometres (20,777.7 sq mi), and has existed as a local government entity since 1887. The major industry in the shire is beef production and some opal mining. There has been some development of the known oil and gas reserves in the region.

Carisbrooke has some spectacular views along the escarpment of the Cory Range and across the valley filled with flat grazing country. One of the spectacular rock features is the Three Outback Sisters. But there is plenty to see.
A small pocket park located opposite the Waltzing Matilda centre and next door to the local swimming pool. The park commemorates Barry Wilson, former Medical Superintendent of the Winton Hospital who died at age 30.
Feel the thrill of standing where dinosaurs once roamed at Lark Quarry Conservation Park. Here, some 4000 footprints have until recently been known as the world’s only record of a dinosaur ‘stampede’— a herd of small dinosaurs being chased by a large theropod, about 95 million years ago!
