What Is Paediatric Physiotherapy?

Paediatric physiotherapy is a area of physiotherapy focused on supporting children and young people; from infants through to adolescents, to develop and maintain the physical skills they need for everyday life. Sessions are designed to address movement, strength, coordination, balance and developmental milestones in ways that are engaging, age-appropriate and meaningful to the child.

At Physio Inq, our paediatric physiotherapists work with children in the environments where they spend their time; at home, in school, in childcare settings, or in the community. This approach means therapy is immediately connected to the activities and routines that matter most, whether that’s keeping up with peers, participating in play, or building confidence in physical tasks.

Our paediatric physiotherapists have experience working with children across a wide range of conditions and developmental needs, and work closely with families, teachers and other allied health professionals to ensure therapy is consistent and well-coordinated.

What our paediatric physiotherapists can help with:

  • Gross motor skill development, including crawling, walking, running and jumping
  • Coordination, balance and body awareness
  • Strength and endurance for physical activity and play
  • Support for children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and other neurological conditions
  • Developmental delay and movement milestone concerns
  • Postural support and core stability
  • Physiotherapy for children with NDIS funding
  • Hyper-mobility and joint instability management
  • Rehabilitation following injury or surgery
  • Supporting participation in school, sport and community activities

All treatment plans are developed in partnership with the child’s family and, where relevant, their school and allied health team.

How We Deliver Paediatric Physiotherapy

Physio Inq delivers paediatric physiotherapy across three service channels, designed to meet children where they are and make therapy as accessible and effective as possible.

In Your Home

Home-based paediatric physiotherapy allows sessions to take place in the environment where children are most comfortable and relaxed. Working in the home gives our physiotherapists direct insight into how a child moves and functions in their everyday setting, making it easier to set goals that are practical and relevant.

Parents and carers are closely involved in home sessions, and our physiotherapists provide clear guidance on activities and strategies that can be incorporated into daily routines between visits.

In School or Childcare

For children whose goals relate to participation in school or childcare, Physio Inq can deliver physiotherapy directly in those settings. This allows therapy to be applied in the actual environment where the child needs to function, supporting better carry-over of skills into daily routines.

Our physiotherapists work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to ensure therapy goals are understood and reinforced throughout the school day.

Online (Telehealth)

Telehealth paediatric physiotherapy is available for families in regional or remote areas, or as a convenient option for check-ins, exercise program reviews and parent coaching between in-person sessions.

Who We Support

Physio Inq’s paediatric physiotherapy services are available to children and young people across a broad range of ages, conditions and support needs.

Children with NDIS Funding

We are a registered NDIS provider and support children whose physiotherapy is funded through their NDIS plan. Our paediatric physiotherapists provide goal-based therapy aligned to the child’s NDIS plan and supply timely reports and documentation to support plan reviews.

Children with Developmental Conditions

Our physiotherapists have experience working with children living with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, developmental coordination disorder, spina bifida and other conditions that affect movement and physical development.

Infants and Toddlers

Early intervention is an important part of supporting children to reach their developmental milestones. Our physiotherapists work with infants and toddlers to address movement concerns, support physical development and provide families with practical strategies to use at home.

School-Aged Children and Teenagers

For older children and teens, therapy focuses on the physical goals that matter most in their daily life; whether that’s participating in sport, managing a condition that affects school attendance, or building the strength and coordination needed for independence.

Families and Carers

We recognise that parents and carers are central to a child’s therapy. Our physiotherapists provide clear guidance and practical home activities at every session, and welcome questions and involvement from families throughout the process.
