What Is Women’s Health Physiotherapy?

Women’s health physiotherapy is an area of physiotherapy focused on the unique physical health needs of women across all life stages; from adolescence and pregnancy through to menopause and beyond. It encompasses assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction, musculoskeletal conditions related to hormonal changes, pre and postnatal rehabilitation, and a range of conditions that disproportionately affect women.

At Physio Inq, our women’s health physiotherapists deliver care in the comfort of your home, in community settings, or via telehealth; removing the barriers that can make accessing this type of care difficult.

Appointments are conducted with the highest level of clinical professionalism, sensitivity and respect for patient privacy.

What our women’s health physiotherapists can help with:

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction, including incontinence and prolapse
  • Antenatal (pregnancy) physiotherapy and birth preparation
  • Postnatal rehabilitation and return to activity
  • Diastasis recti (abdominal separation) assessment and rehabilitation
  • Pelvic girdle pain and lower back pain during and after pregnancy
  • Menopause-related musculoskeletal changes
  • Bladder and bowel control concerns
  • Pelvic pain and endometriosis-related musculoskeletal support
  • Women’s health physiotherapy for women living with disability (NDIS)
  • Core strength and postural rehabilitation

Treatment plans are developed individually and adjusted as your needs change, always in an environment that feels safe, private and supportive.

How We Deliver Women’s Health Physiotherapy

Physio Inq understands that privacy and comfort are especially important in women’s health care. We offer three flexible service delivery options to ensure you can access support in the way that works best for you.

In Your Home

Home-based women’s health physiotherapy is available for clients who prefer the privacy and comfort of their own environment. This is particularly suited to new mothers recovering in the early postnatal period, women with mobility challenges, and those who simply prefer to avoid a clinical setting for this type of care.

Our physiotherapists bring all necessary equipment to home sessions and ensure every appointment is conducted with professionalism and discretion.

In Your Community

For clients who prefer to access care outside the home, Physio Inq can arrange sessions in community settings. We can also deliver group-based pelvic floor and core rehabilitation programs in appropriate community environments.

Online (Telehealth)

Telehealth women’s health physiotherapy is available for initial consultations, exercise program delivery, progress reviews and ongoing management. This is an effective option for many aspects of women’s health care and is particularly useful for clients in regional or remote areas, or those managing busy family or work schedules.

Who We Support

Physio Inq’s women’s health physiotherapy services are available to women across all life stages, from pregnancy and the postnatal period through to older age.

Women During Pregnancy (Antenatal)

Our physiotherapists provide antenatal care to support physical wellbeing throughout pregnancy, including management of pelvic girdle pain, lower back pain, and preparation for labour. We provide education and exercise guidance to help women feel strong, informed and prepared.

New Mothers (Postnatal)

We support new mothers through the postnatal recovery period, including pelvic floor rehabilitation, abdominal separation (diastasis recti) assessment and recovery, and a graduated return to physical activity. Home-based sessions are particularly well-suited to the early postnatal period when leaving the house with a newborn can be challenging.

Women with Pelvic Floor Concerns

We work with women experiencing bladder leakage, pelvic prolapse, pelvic pain or bowel control concerns at any life stage. Our physiotherapists take a thorough, evidence-based approach to assessment and provide practical, effective treatment.

Women Going Through Menopause

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can significantly affect musculoskeletal health, including bone density, joint health and pelvic floor function. Our physiotherapists provide targeted programs to support women through this transition.

Women Living with Disability (NDIS)

We are a registered NDIS provider and support women with disability who require women’s health physiotherapy. Our team works within the participant’s NDIS plan and coordinates with support coordinators where required.

If you are supporting a family member and would like to discuss their needs before making a referral, we welcome that conversation. Contact our team on 1300 731 733 or use our online Make a Referral Form.
