Helping Kids Achieve Their Best Through Paediatric Physiotherapy
At Physio Inq, we support children to move more confidently, take part in play and school activities and build the physical skills they need for everyday life.
Whether your child is finding it hard to keep up with peers, needs support to reach movement milestones or is working through changes in how they move, we focus on practical skills that make daily routines easier. Paediatric Physiotherapy sessions are designed to support your child and give you clear guidance, strategies and confidence between visits.
Our experienced paediatric physiotherapists work closely with children of all ages, from babies and toddlers to school-aged kids and teens. Every session is designed to be fun, engaging and focused on your child’s goals and daily life. We focus on improving movement, coordination, strength and overall function through play-based therapy and evidence-backed techniques.
Here, we understand that every child is unique. That’s why our approach considers not only the physical aspects of therapy but also the emotional and social needs of growing kids so they can feel more confident trying new movements, joining in with others and enjoying active play when possible.
How we can help
Our paediatric physiotherapists work with children at every stage of development, from infancy to adolescence. We help children develop the physical skills they need to take part in everyday activities, from playground play to classroom participation and family routines.
Kids’ physio supports children to move better, feel stronger and build confidence through play-based, evidence-informed care. We commonly help with:
Development & motor skills
- Delays in rolling, sitting, crawling and walking
- Coordination difficulties and clumsiness
- Support with gross motor milestones so your child can explore, play and move around with more confidence and independence
Gait & posture
- In-toeing, toe-walking, flat feet concerns, including support for walking longer distances, keeping up with peers and staying comfortable during school and play
- Postural issues, including W-sitting, back or neck discomfort
Neurological & neuromuscular
- Cerebral palsy and brain injury
- Muscular dystrophy and related conditions
- Congenital syndromes or metabolic conditions
- Support that focuses on comfort, mobility and participation in daily routines, working alongside your child’s broader care team when helpful
Orthopaedic & musculoskeletal
- Torticollis, plagiocephaly and talipes (clubfoot)
- Sport and play injuries, fractures and growth-related pain with guidance that supports a safe return to sport, playground activities and school physical education when achievable
Prematurity & early infancy
- Gentle guidance on positioning, handling and early play to support your child’s comfort and motor development
Respiratory & rheumatological
- Asthma and cystic fibrosis (airway clearance support and techniques to make breathing feel easier, reduce fatigue and help your child join in with play and physical activity when possible)
- Juvenile idiopathic arthritis and related conditions
Other development areas we support
Each Physiotherapy session, as well as sessions in other areas, focuses on building skills your child can use every day, at home, at school and in the community. Therapy is always based on their age, stage and goals, using evidence-informed techniques.
Movement development & functional mobility
Targeted activities help children build strength, coordination and movement skills needed for milestones. Developing these foundational skills supports participation in play and everyday activities so your child can join in playground games, sports and family outings with more confidence.
Therapy also addresses functional movement so your child can sit comfortably at school, move safely around the home and stay active without tiring too quickly.
Strength & endurance
Sessions can include exercises and play-based activities that build strength and stamina, helping children keep up with peers, manage school days and enjoy physical activities without becoming easily tired when achievable.
Pain & injury management
Support from someone like a Physio Inq therapist is available for growth-related pain, rehabilitation following injury, and safe return to play and activity, with guidance on safe movement, pacing and next steps so families feel confident supporting progress between sessions.
What to expect
Every child’s experience is different. Our team ensures your child’s physiotherapy is engaging, effective and aligned with their goals, and you’ll always know what we’re working on, why it matters and how to support progress between visits.
- Initial assessment (45–60 mins): history, movement screening and goal setting with you and your child, with time to understand your concerns, routines and priorities.
- Personalised plan: play-based therapy, graded exercises and practical strategies for home and school, including ideas you can use during daily routines and play.
- Engaging sessions: short bursts of activity, rest or play cycles and positive coaching to keep kids motivated in a way that feels like play rather than formal treatment.
- Caregiver coaching: clear demos, written or visual home programs and progress check-ins so you feel confident supporting your child day-to-day.
- Review & progression: outcome measures, updated goals and coordination with other providers when helpful (e.g., GP, OT, speech) so supports can keep pace with your child’s development.
In-Home and Telehealth options
We bring physiotherapy into your child’s everyday environment, reducing travel stress and making sessions easier to fit into family life. That’s why our kids’ physio services can be delivered in your home or online through secure video consultations.
In-home:
- Therapists bring portable equipment for strength, balance, coordination, posture and airway clearance work.
- Great for real-world practice (stairs, play spaces, school bags and daily routines) so your child can practise skills in the spaces they use every day, from bedrooms to backyards.
Telehealth:
- Ideal for coaching, exercise progressions and follow-ups when travel, illness or scheduling makes an in-home visit difficult, without losing clear guidance and support.
- We’ll help you set up a safe space and confirm device, camera and internet requirements.
- Resources provided (videos, checklists and trackers) to help you stay organised between sessions.
Safety, consent and privacy standards are followed across all formats.
Funding and access
- NDIS: suitable for self-managed and plan-managed participants; services align with individual goals and plans, so each session links back to what matters for your child’s day-to-day life.
- Self-funded: pay-as-you-go is available; invoices and receipts are provided for straightforward claiming and record keeping.
Understanding funding for your child’s physiotherapy
We believe every child should have access to high-quality physiotherapy support when they need it. That’s why Physio Inq offers flexible funding pathways to help families access services in a way that suits their circumstances, with clear explanations and support through the process.
We offer flexible access options and work with multiple funding pathways to make kids’ physiotherapy accessible for every family. A team like our Physiotherapy staff can help you understand what you may be eligible for and guide you through the steps and paperwork, where needed.
NDIS Funding
Paediatric physiotherapy can be accessed through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for eligible children. Services are aligned with your child’s individual goals and may focus on mobility, functional independence, developmental milestones or condition management. This is suitable for self-managed and plan-managed participants.
Therapy support can be delivered at home, in the community or via telehealth, depending on your plan and needs, with goals linked to everyday participation such as moving around safely, joining in at school and managing routines.
Private Health Insurance
Many families access paediatric physiotherapy through private health insurance extras cover. Depending on your level of cover, rebates may be available for assessment, treatment sessions and rehabilitation programs provided in private practice settings.
This can help reduce out-of-pocket costs while keeping support consistent over time.
Extras policies commonly include physiotherapy among out-of-hospital services and allow members to claim a portion of treatment costs back, up to annual policy limits. Private health insurance is designed to support services not routinely covered by Medicare, such as allied health therapies.
Self-Funded Services
Families can also choose to access physiotherapy on a privately funded basis, with pay-as-you-go available.
Self-funded services provide immediate access to care without referral requirements and can be used alongside other funding streams where applicable, giving families flexibility to start support sooner when needed. Invoices and receipts are also provided for straightforward claiming and record keeping.
Our team is happy to guide parents and carers through the funding process, helping you understand referral pathways, required documentation and how physiotherapy can align with your child’s broader care plan. That way, you feel informed and supported rather than left to work it out alone.
