Speech Therapy for Kids

When a child has difficulty speaking, understanding language or joining in conversation, it can affect learning, confidence and friendships, and that’s where speech therapy for children can help. With the right support, your child can feel more comfortable in everyday moments such as answering questions in class, asking for help, joining games with friends or sharing stories at home.

Our paediatric speech pathologists work with children and families to build clear communication, stronger social connections and greater confidence. Offering sessions that can take place in your home, at school or childcare, or by telehealth, we focus on practical communication skills that help children feel more comfortable expressing themselves and taking part in daily routines.

We also welcome NDIS participants, private clients and referrals from health and education professionals.

Find your child’s voice with in-home speech therapy

Families often look for trusted speech therapy for children, hoping to find care that is reliable and easy to access.

Our mobile speech pathologists support children to find their voice, develop language skills and build confidence in everyday situations. This can include helping children communicate needs more clearly at home, participate in classroom discussions and feel more comfortable talking with peers.

Signs your child may benefit from speech therapy

You might notice that your child:

  • Is not meeting speech and language milestones for their age
  • Has a lisp, stutter or unclear pronunciation
  • Finds it difficult to be understood by family, teachers or friends
  • Struggles with reading, spelling or comprehension
  • Has been diagnosed with autism, developmental delay or social communication differences
  • Has difficulty chewing, swallowing or eating safely

If any of these sound familiar, you can book an initial speech pathology assessment. We’ll listen to your concerns, assess your child’s communication and design a plan for speech therapy that suits their needs and goals.

We begin by understanding what you see day to day and what matters most to your family, then agree on clear goals together. You will also receive straightforward feedback about progress and what can be practised at home when possible.

Why families choose mobile speech therapy

Having a mobile speech therapist visit your child at home, school or childcare means therapy fits naturally into their day. This can reduce rushing between appointments and help children stay engaged without adding pressure to family routines.

Working in familiar environments often helps children settle more quickly and practise skills where they use them most. Our in-home speech therapy service is available to children with or without NDIS funding and is also offered via telehealth anywhere in Australia. Telehealth can be helpful when travel is difficult or when families prefer support that can be accessed from home.

How Physio Inq speech therapists support school-aged children

This type of therapy focuses on building confidence and participation at school, at home and in the community. That’s why our NDIS-registered speech pathologists help children use communication skills more comfortably in real-life situations when achievable.

We can assist children living with:

  • Speech sound disorders – supporting children who may struggle with words that are hard to understand or sounds that are missed or swapped (for example, ‘tat’ instead of ‘cat’)
  • Stuttering or fluency difficulties – helping children speak more smoothly and with confidence
  • Language delays and comprehension difficulties – supporting understanding, following instructions and using complete sentences
  • Literacy and learning support – improving reading accuracy, spelling and written expression
  • Social communication challenges – supporting conversation, turn-taking and making friends
  • Swallowing or feeding difficulties – helping children eat and drink safely and comfortably
  • Voice differences or vocal strain – guiding healthy voice use for children who talk or sing frequently
  • Communication support for developmental or neurological conditions – including developmental delay and autism

Each therapy plan aligns with your child’s NDIS goals and includes clear progress updates for families, teachers and support coordinators.

Who we support (for kids speech pathology)

Families come to us at different stages of their child’s development and with different needs. We work with:

  • Children aged 0 to 18 years
  • Children with developmental delay, autism or speech and language disorders
  • Children who experience stuttering, literacy or swallowing concerns
  • NDIS participants and privately funded clients

Our multidisciplinary team also provides occupational therapy, physiotherapy and exercise physiology where a coordinated approach is needed, as well as services for adults and Aged Care. This allows families to access multiple services through one provider, reducing the stress of coordinating appointments across different organisations.

What is the difference between speech therapy and speech pathology?

They mean the same thing. ‘Speech pathologist’ is the professional title used in Australia, and ‘speech therapy’ describes the support they provide to help with communication and swallowing needs.

Can NDIS funding cover in-home speech therapy?

Yes. If your child’s NDIS plan includes speech pathology or communication-related goals, in-home or telehealth sessions can usually be funded, making it easier to access support that fits into everyday routines.

How long does a therapy plan last?

Most children begin with a 12-month plan. This allows time to work towards goals, review progress along the way and provide updates that support ongoing NDIS reporting.

Do I need a GP referral?

No referral is required. Parents, carers and support coordinators can contact us directly to arrange an appointment.

What if we live in a regional area?

Telehealth speech pathology is available across Australia, offering the same structured support, continuity of care and reporting as in-person sessions.
