Telehealth Allied Health Services | Online Therapy Australia | Physio Inq

What Is Telehealth Allied Health?

Telehealth allied health refers to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and exercise physiology services delivered via secure video consultation, rather than in person. Using a smartphone, tablet or computer, clients connect with a qualified clinician and receive professional assessment, therapy, education and coaching from anywhere in Australia.

Telehealth is not a compromise. For many aspects of allied health, video-based delivery produces comparable outcomes to in-person care, and in some cases, it is the preferred model. Language therapy, exercise program delivery, carer coaching, functional assessment interviews, NDIS reporting consultations and progress reviews are all well-suited to telehealth. The flexibility of online access also improves consistency of attendance, which is one of the most important factors in allied health outcomes.

At Physio Inq, telehealth is one of three service delivery channels alongside in-home and community-based care. It is available as a standalone service or in combination with in-person visits, depending on the client’s goals and preferences. Our telehealth clinicians are the same AHPRA-registered and ESSA-accredited professionals who provide our mobile services, meaning there is no difference in clinical quality.

Where hands-on assessment or treatment is required such as manual therapy, swallowing assessment or in-home environmental evaluation, our team will recommend in-person sessions and can arrange these alongside telehealth as part of a blended program.

Who Are Telehealth Services Right For?

People in Regional, Rural and Remote Australia

People in Regional, Rural and Remote Australia

Telehealth removes the most significant barrier to allied health access for Australians outside major centres; distance. If you live in a regional town, a rural community or a remote area where local allied health is unavailable or involves significant travel, Physio Inq’s telehealth services provide direct access to qualified clinicians from your home.

NDIS Participants

NDIS Participants

Telehealth NDIS allied health can be funded under the same support categories as in-person services. For participants who find travel difficult, manage significant fatigue, or have limited local provider options, telehealth ensures consistent access to quality support. Physio Inq is a registered NDIS provider supporting self-managed, plan-managed and agency-managed participants via telehealth.

People Managing Fatigue or Mobility Limitations

People Managing Fatigue or Mobility Limitations

For clients living with conditions that cause significant fatigue, including; MS, chronic fatigue syndrome, cardiac conditions or cancer, the energy cost of travelling to appointments can be a real barrier to consistent therapy. Telehealth removes that cost entirely, making it easier to maintain regular, evidence-based care.

Families and Carers

Families and Carers

Many aspects of allied health therapy, particularly paediatric programs and aged care support, rely heavily on family and carer involvement. Telehealth makes it easier for busy families to access coaching, strategy sessions and education without the disruption of clinic visits.

Telehealth Allied Health for Regional, Rural and Remote Australia

One of the most significant advantages of telehealth is geographic reach. If you live in a regional town, a rural community or a remote area where local allied health services are limited or unavailable, telehealth provides direct access to qualified clinicians without requiring you to travel long distances to a major centre.

Physio Inq’s telehealth services are available nationally; anywhere in Australia with a stable internet connection. This includes clients in:

  • Regional and rural New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania
  • Remote communities where in-person allied health services are not regularly available
  • Areas with long waiting lists for local allied health services
  • Locations where the nearest qualified therapist is many hours away

For NDIS participants in regional and rural areas, telehealth can be funded under the same support categories as in-person services, ensuring equitable access to quality allied health regardless of location.

If you are in a location where in-person services are also available, telehealth can be used as a flexible complement to face-to-face sessions; for progress reviews, coaching, home program delivery and carer education between in-person visits.

Funding for Telehealth Allied Health

Physio Inq’s telehealth allied health services are funded under the same pathways as in-person services. Telehealth is not a separate or reduced funding category under the NDIS, it is simply a different delivery mode for the same clinically equivalent service.

Funding pathways available:

  • NDIS Capacity Building: Improved Daily Living (Category 07): self-managed, plan-managed and agency-managed
  • Support at Home program (formerly Home Care Package)
  • Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
  • Medicare Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plans; where applicable
  • Private health insurance (depending on your level of cover)
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA)
  • Private / self-funded arrangements

Our team can confirm the relevant funding pathway for your specific situation. Call 1300 731 733 or submit a referral and we’ll be in touch within 24 hours.
